Henry and Roma Gerbus, who traded in their hard-drive at the Best Buy branch in Springfield Township, were told that the old hard drive would be destroyed.
Gerbus said that staff at the store said that the hard-drive would have holes drilled into it so that it became useless. However, a month ago, Gerbus got a call from a bloke in Chicago who said he had just bought a hard drive for $25 in a flea market.
The drive had the couple's personal information, including Social Security numbers, bank statements and investment records.

NEW YORK — Verizon Communications Inc. denied Tuesday that it had received a request for customer phone records from the National Security Agency, bringing into question key points of a USA Today story.Now pay close attention to this!
"Contrary to the media reports, Verizon was not asked by NSA to provide, nor did Verizon provide, customer phone records," the New York-based phone company said in an e-mailed statement. The statement came a day after BellSouth Corp. also said the NSA had never requested customer call data, nor had the company provided any.

If you do not know how your fellow African Americans were treated in rural 1920s Mississippi, you cannot know how lucky you are to live in an America that has the opportunities this nation now affords men and women of every race.
Knowledge of history is context and context is everything.
But the message in this case truly is the medium. The e-mails pulse in my queue, emanating raw hatred. This spells trouble -- not for Bush or, in 2008, the next GOP presidential candidate, but for Democrats. The anger festering on the Democratic left will be taken out on the Democratic middle. (Watch out, Hillary!) I have seen this anger before -- back in the Vietnam War era. That's when the antiwar wing of the Democratic Party helped elect Richard Nixon. In this way, they managed to prolong the very war they so hated.Like I have said for a long time -- Democrats keep the hate flowing, it will do more to help Republicans then any strategy they can come up with.

An article yesterday about criticism of the Small Business Administration's response to the 2005 hurricanes misstated the value of loans the agency has provided to victims. It is $842 million, not $336 million.You just know as many readers read the correction as read the story -- don't you! Lost on Shane, it seems, is that these documents were released in large part so that we would no longer have to rely on the opinions of anonymous intelligence officials who, according to the Senate Intelligence Committee's bipartisan report, knew very little about Iraq before the war. It should hardly be surprising that the U.S. intelligence community would seek to downplay the significance of these documents after paying them little attention for three years. In any case, the release of the documents allows the debate to move from speculation to fact. It is a development one would expect the Times to welcome.
