...they want us out!(?)

Some parents of military members who lost their life get a chance to visit Iraq and find out that indeed there is a different story then what the MSM is reporting here... Who would have thought it? God bless the families and may we never forget their sacrifice!

One mother tucked the photo into a framed picture of her two sons and husband, who had also been killed during Saddam's rule. "Now your son is my son," the woman told Bastian.

Anti-War Protesters' Anger Is Misplaced
"A Syracuse woman is accused of spitting in a Fort Drum soldier's face at Hancock Airport. Lauren Maggi, 35, was charged with second-degree harassment after the Nov. 22 incident, according to a police report."

Charles Rangle on What the Left Really Thinks

Charlie just proves what the left really think about the military--no soldier is there for patriotism and if they could find a decent job they wouldn't be there. Per congressman Rangle:
I want to make it abundantly clear: if there’s anyone who believes that these youngsters want to fight, as the Pentagon and some generals have said, you can just forget about it. No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. And most all of them come from communities of very, very high unemployment. If a young fella has an option of having a decent career or joining the army to fight in Iraq, you can bet your life that he would not be in Iraq.

Well idiot, I am sorry if what I said offends you (not really)--I was in the military, I am from a middle class family, I had the opportunity to go to college, and I joined the Army staying in the Army... Here is the kicker 'buckwheat' I was earned a decent job less then two weeks after leaving--meaning I never leached off the government. By the way, why would anyone want to live in New York where they keep re-electing idiots (again sorry if what I said offended you).

Let's Not Forget

I concluded in the earlier post that I may just be smarter then a journalist; however, if we listen to John Kerry I can't be... Of course, he obviously has no idea how many soldiers have college educations--whether receiving these educations before, during, or after military service.

Iraq Compared to WWII -- ??

We have more comparisons between WWII and Iraq --I know I am just an old soldier and not as smart as a journalist but comparing the two seems like comparing a Lamborghini to a Yugo--their both cars! Compare the overwhelming support to current protest, compare the overwhelming casualties inflected on the enemy, compare the US casualties suffered, compare the devastating destruction of property to surgical strikes, and imagine if we used something as little as "tactical nuclear devices" what kind of protest would be encountered--compare that protest if we went "nuclear" to the joy of WWII ending after using a "nuclear device"... Yep lots of similarities, NOT... Now let's compare how long we "occupied", the left's word, these countries we defeated in WWII--four years ain't even a drop in the bucket... How 'bout we compare monies spent to rebuild these countries we defeated in WWII--again the bucket is dry... On second thought, maybe I am smarter then a journalist--this one anyway! Some excerpts:

The U.S. mission in Iraq has now lasted longer than America's involvement in World War II. That should be an occasion for sober reflection. In less than four years -- from 1941 to 1945 -- the United States and its allies managed to defeat two of the most powerful militaries in the world. By contrast, today, we are still mired in an endless conflict in a single small country after the same amount of time.

Mad Mom is Back

"Mad mom" (Cindy Sheehan) and Code Pink are back to making fools of themselves. Protesting something they know nothing about (hint: the Korean governement asked for these base consolidation)... By the way, you misspelled base, dumb-dumb-dumb--but that is not a surprise!

US activists protest larger SKorea bases
Shouting slogans such as "Stop US military base expansion!" and "Stop repression in Pyeongtaek!" the protesters held up their US passports and asked police to get out of their way.
[...]
Medea Benjamin, founder of Code Pink, a US women's peace organization, said: "There is no way that I feel my family will be more secure or that Korean families will feel more secure by expanding the Camp Humphreys base (in Pyeongtaek) and taking land from people who have farmed there for generations."

Casino Royale - Review - Recommend

As promised I went to see 'Casino Royale' and enjoyed it. Can I say it is the best 'Bond' movie I have ever seen-NO; however, it was good. If you consider that the movie is about the 'beginning of the legend' it will make the movie better. Basically, you need to forget all you know about Bond--forget you know he got married and that wife was killed immediately after the wedding, forget what he evolved into a dapper killing machine, forget that every women he runs into is ready to melt into his bed, and forget he very rarely ever gets dirty or bloody while saving the world--REMEMBER that he is just staring out. That starting out role and remembering it is what will make it work--he has a long fight scene with two men in a staircase that would have taken the older Bond less then a minute not to mention it took over half the movie to win the women who ends up being the reason he trust no one! All in all, though not the best 007 movie the ‘rough around the edges Bond’ was good and bore a striking similarity to Jason Bourne… I recommend it, if you care in the slightest.

Military Traditions

It is good to see some find traditions in the military GOOD and don't try to trash them!

Thanksgiving in the Army

Civilians making their way past American military bases and checkpoints in Iraq this Thanksgiving may be surprised to find senior American non-commissioned officers and commissioned officers guarding the gates and manning the wire — duties normally reserved for young enlisted soldiers. If the Iraqis were to venture inside the compounds, they might see the regular rank-and-file American G.I. feasting on everything from roast turkey to roast-beef to sweet-potato pie and every kind of cake and confectionary treat imaginable, all served by the officers.

It’s part of a long-standing Thanksgiving tradition in the U.S. Army where senior leaders serve junior soldiers.

Poltics as Usual

The UPI runs a story, Bush avoids `God` in Thanksgiving speech, as they keep their political hat on! Not to long ago they, along with other MSM (Mainstream Media), had a problem with God being in a speech... Simply amazing!

God is mentioned is the President's proclimation!

As Americans gather with family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving Day, we give thanks for the many ways that our Nation and our people have been blessed.

The Thanksgiving tradition dates back to the earliest days of our society, celebrated in decisive moments in our history and in quiet times around family tables. Nearly four centuries have passed since early settlers gave thanks for their safe arrival and pilgrims enjoyed a harvest feast to thank God for allowing them to survive a harsh winter in the New World. General George Washington observed Thanksgiving during the Revolutionary War, and in his first proclamation after becoming President, he declared November 26, 1789, a national day of "thanksgiving and prayer." During the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln revived the tradition of proclaiming a day of thanksgiving, reminding a divided Nation of its founding ideals.

At this time of great promise for America, we are grateful for the freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution and defended by our Armed Forces throughout the generations. Today, many of these courageous men and women are securing our peace in places far from home, and we pay tribute to them and to their families for their service, sacrifice, and strength. We also honor the families of the fallen and lift them up in our prayers.

Our citizens are privileged to live in the world's freest country, where the hope of the American dream is within the reach of every person. Americans share a desire to answer the universal call to serve something greater than ourselves, and we see this spirit every day in the millions of volunteers throughout our country who bring hope and healing to those in need. On this Thanksgiving Day, and throughout the year, let us show our gratitude for the blessings of freedom, family, and faith, and may God continue to bless America.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim Thursday, November 23, 2006, as a National Day of Thanksgiving. I encourage all Americans to gather together in their homes and places of worship with family, friends, and loved ones to reinforce the ties that bind us and give thanks for the freedoms and many blessings we enjoy.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this sixteenth day of November, in the year of our Lord two thousand six, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-first.

GEORGE W. BUSH

Not quite like George Washington's I posted earlier, but it will do!

Interesting Observation

Catholic League president Bill Donohue had an interesting comparison between Gibson's and Richard's racial tirades and Penn's (of Penn and Teller) tarads against Catholics--I will take it one step further Penn Jillette on several occasions has insulted all religion, well all religion that involves the God of Abraham, Issac, Jacob, and Moses...

“In other words, racism and anti-Semitism are unacceptable, even when expressed in frustration or when inebriated, but anti-Catholicism is okay, even when expressed repeatedly and done intentionally. The problem here is not with Richards, Gibson or Jillette—the problem is with all the phonies who claim to be horrified by bigotry.”

Happy Thanksgiving!

I wish all a Happy Thanksgiving. My deepest wish is that all have something to be thankful for, and I believe all Americans do.

Like last year I want to share George Washington's 1789 Thanksgiving proclamation.
WHEREAS, It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor;

WHEREAS, Both the houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me "to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:"

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted' for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have show kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

--George Washington - October 3, 1789

This is Interesting - NYT

Now we have the New York Times reverses their defense of releasing 'secrect' information!

After pondering for several months, I have decided I was off base. There were reasons to publish the controversial article, but they were slightly outweighed by two factors to which I gave too little emphasis. While it’s a close call now, as it was then, I don’t think the article should have been published.
[...]
I haven’t found any evidence in the intervening months that the surveillance program was illegal under United States laws. Although data-protection authorities in Europe have complained that the formerly secret program violated their rules on privacy, there have been no Times reports of legal action being taken. Data-protection rules are often stricter in Europe than in America, and have been a frequent source of friction.

Of course they buried this in their paper.

Dangers of Appeasement!

Philip Klein has a good piece about 'appeasement' -
In recent weeks, both President Bush and Donald Rumsfeld have warned against making the same mistake Nazi appeasers made during the 1930s by not taking the words of our enemies seriously. While it is certainly tempting to compare the attitudes of Nazi appeasers to those held by today's Left, there is, unfortunately, a much more recent, and more relevant, example of the danger of underestimating evil.
[...]
In a well-known fatwa issued on Feb. 23, 1998, Osama bin Laden declared that: "The ruling to kill the Americans and their allies -- civilians and military -- is an individual duty for every Muslim who can do it in any country in which it is possible to do it..." A few months later, he told ABC's John Miller that: "We do not have to differentiate between military or civilian. As far as we are concerned, they are all targets..."
[...]
Two weeks later, when President Clinton ordered cruise missile strikes against a pharmaceutical plant in Sudan and al Qaeda camps in Afghanistan, he told the American people that this would not be the end of the struggle against terrorism. "We must be prepared to do all that we can for as long as we must," he said. He declared that, "there are no expendable American targets" and vowed that, "there will be no sanctuary for terrorists..."

But despite Clinton's tough talk, that was, in fact, the end of his struggle against terrorism as far as military action was concerned...

Two Important Questions!

Rumsfeld ask two questions that all of us should answer for ourselves--the answers to the questions should influence on our hand at the ballot box more then how our 'wallets' will be affected!
"Can we truly afford to believe that somehow, some way, vicious extremists can be appeased?"
NO!

Shame on Them

You mean they weren't 'Monitoring'--I don't think that is what the article means; however, it should have been worded differently (Pentagon to 'Better' Monitor..., or Pentagon to 'Increase' Monitoring...).  To make a statements like this indicates to the public, a public that may not and probably doesn't know better, that recruiters up till now have had free rein--I can assure they have not, or didn't in my time!  Either way I do agree that there is a need to find if these complaints are legitimate and 'weed out' the offenders.

Pentagon to Monitor Recruiters
SAN JOSE, California - The Defense Department has announced it will closely monitor military recruiters and their commanders in light of two investigations - one by the government, the other by The Associated Press - that found increased levels of recruiter misconduct.

Plame Waste of Time

David Corn has some intresting insight into the 'Plame leak' or as I think of it the 'Plame waste of time'.
That meant that the State Department had good reason (political reason, that is) to distance itself from Wilson, a former State Department official. Armitage may well have referred to Wilson's wife and her CIA connection to make the point that State officials--already suspected by the White House of not being team players--had nothing to do with Wilson and his trip.

If Your Wondering

I haven't given up on politics or world events (e.g. Israel Crisis Cease Fire, Lieberman, 2006 Election, Iraq, etc.); however, I am a little tired of it witting about it everyday. Others are much better better at it anyway. I do and will post what is important to me, which includes SPORTS! Conflict of Interest

Here is an interesting revelation about a conflict of interest involving the 'no wiretapping' judge that, surprise, the MSM has ignored.
Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption and judicial abuse, announced today that Judge Anna Diggs Taylor, who last week ruled the government’s warrantless wiretapping program unconstitutional, serves as a Secretary and Trustee for a foundation that donated funds to the ACLU of Michigan, a plaintiff in the case (ACLU et. al v. National Security Agency). Judicial Watch discovered the potential conflict of interest after reviewing Judge Diggs Taylor’s financial disclosure statements.

Michael Moore's Fan Club

It appears Michael Moore has more accolades to add to his 'public relation' file...  Michael Moore is the favored American director among terrorists types.  Wow, doesn't he have a lot to be proud of...
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - An Iraqi militant group has produced an elaborate video of what it said were attacks on U.S. troops, in the latest example of the increasingly sophisticated propaganda war being waged by Iraqi insurgents.

Lifting scenes from Michael Moore's anti-war film "Fahrenheit 9/11", Rashedeen's narrator taunts President Bush in softly spoken English over graphic images of Humvees being blown up by roadside bombs, and purportedly dead U.S. troops.

Interesting

The below is an educational piece--it shows us what you get when you hire a racist to appease racist and be politically correct.

Wal-Mart Image-Builder Resigns
The civil rights leader Andrew Young, who was hired by Wal-Mart to improve its public image, resigned from that post last night after telling an African-American newspaper that Jewish, Arab and Korean shop owners had “ripped off” urban communities for years, “selling us stale bread, and bad meat and wilted vegetables.”
[...]
“You see those are the people who have been overcharging us,” he said of the owners of the small stores, “and they sold out and moved to Florida. I think they’ve ripped off our communities enough. First it was Jews, then it was Koreans and now it’s Arabs.”

I am Tired!

I am getting tired of having to walk around as if we were on thin ice where Muslims are concerned. Here is an idea for the Muslim leaders, actively work to rid your 'religion' of these terrorist and condemn their activity. Until then, give it a rest and remember--what religion were the men that bombed the Trade Centers in 1993, blew up the USS Cole, crashed planes into the Trade Centers in 2001, and continue to threaten the United States?

Another question; how come members of the Islamic community have no problem speaking out against any faith but theirs--but cry foul whenever 'truths' are spoken about many of the followers of their faith?

JonBenet Ramsey Suspect 'So Very Sorry'
BANGKOK, THAILAND — A former American school teacher said publicly Thursday he was with JonBenet Ramsey when she was killed and called the 6-year-old's death "an accident," a stunning admission that should help answer 10 years of questions in the unsolved murder case. "I am so very sorry for what happened to JonBenet," he told The Associated Press.

Too Bad...

For the kooks on the left--Lieberman is leading in the polls...  Pay close attention to the 'likely votors', Lieberman has a twelve point lead. To be fair most readers that frequent here know my view of polls; however, the left seem to live and die by polls so this is bad news for the far left.

New Poll Shows Lieberman Leading Lamont
The Quinnipiac University poll has Lieberman leading Lamont among registered voters 49 percent to 38 percent. Republican Alan Schlesinger gets support from 4 percent. Among likely voters, Lieberman was supported by 53 percent, compared to Lamont's 41 percent and Schlesinger's 4 percent.

Some of you might not know some ordeals that GM Roper has been going through, but this is good news.

GM's Corner : The Battle Is Won, The Fight Continues!
The battle has been won, the war will go on until I have been 5 years cancer free and can then count myself a full fledged member of the cancer survivors network.

Will it Last

What do you all think? Will it last?

Don't get me wrong--I hope for peace; however, "take your ball and go home" knowing they will return, is not peace! If it were peace there would not have been decades of strife in the Middle East; after all how many of these "take you ball and go home" agreements have there been. Whatever you call it ceasefire or peace I don't believe it should restrict Israel while Hizbollah rearms with supplies from Syria and Iran.

Ceasefire agreed for Monday
BEIRUT (Reuters) - The United Nations said Israeli and Lebanese leaders had agreed to a ceasefire to take effect at 0500 GMT on Monday, as Israel reported its worst death toll yet in the month-long war against Hizbollah guerrillas.

An Economics Lesson

Thomas Sowell give a nice explanation why increasing minimum wage is bad....
A survey has shown that 85 percent of the economists in Canada and 90 percent of the economists in the United States say that minimum wage laws reduce employment. But you don't need a Ph.D. in economics to know that jacking up prices leads fewer people to buy. Those people include employers, who hire less labor when labor is made artificially more expensive.

There is no free lunch. Higher labor costs mean fewer jobs.

Local TV stations had also reported that the same number of people were buried under the rubble of houses that collapsed after being targeted by Israeli airstrikes.

You Can Trust Them -- Right!

From NewsBuster -- Interesting!

CNN's Robertson Now Admits: Hezbollah 'Had Control' of His Anti-Israel Piece
Better late than never? On CNN’s Reliable Sources on Sunday, CNN’s senior international correspondent Nic Robertson added all of the caveats and disclaimers that he should have included in his story last week that amounted to his giving an uncritical forum for the terrorist group Hezbollah to spout unverifiable anti-Israeli propaganda.
[...]
Challenged by Reliable Sources host (and Washington Post media writer) Howard Kurtz on Sunday, Robertson suggested Hezbollah has “very, very sophisticated and slick media operations,” that the terrorist group “had control of the situation. They designated the places that we went to, and we certainly didn't have time to go into the houses or lift up the rubble to see what was underneath,” and he even contradicted Hezbollah’s self-serving spin: “There's no doubt that the [Israeli] bombs there are hitting Hezbollah facilities.”

Update

After taking some time off I thought I would share some things I found interesting.

  • Something that you want here much of in the MSM (Main Stream Media), because it is not 'negative' enough toward the military.

Guardsman Cleared in Iraqi's Death
BAGHDAD, Iraq - The U.S. military has dismissed all charges against a Pennsylvania National Guardsman accused of killing an unarmed Iraq civilian near Ramadi, finding that the soldier had reason to believe the man had a weapon.

  • Jonah Goldberg pretty much pegs the UN for the failure it is!

The Great U.N. Delusion::By Jonah Goldberg
No, the failure comes in precisely the arena that supposedly justifies the U.N.'s existence: global peace and security. And that's where the delusion comes in. The folks at United Nations Plaza have proved themselves to be either well-intentioned incompetents or cagey, crapulent kleptocrats. The list of their biggest failures is spelled out in blood: Somalia, Rwanda, Yugoslavia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Congo (where peacekeepers reportedly raped the local girls), Iraq (where the U.N. bugged out after a bombing in 2003), Darfur and, in what was supposed to be the model for U.N. peacekeeping, East Timor, which, after seven years of exemplary U.N. stewardship, recently became the ideal location to film a reality-show version of "Mad Max."

MOGADISHU (AFP) - Somalia's powerful Islamic council has vowed a "holy war" against neighbouring Ethiopia, which has moved troops into its lawless neighbouring state to protect its weak transitional government from a feared Islamist advance.

The Tide Turns

This is interesting...

In an About-Face, Sunnis Want U.S. to Remain in Iraq
July 16 — As sectarian violence soars, many Sunni Arab political and religious leaders once staunchly opposed to the American presence here are now saying they need American troops to protect them from the rampages of Shiite militias and Shiite-run government forces.
Not to worry the NYT still gets to take it's shots
The Sunni Arab leaders say they have no newfound love for the Americans. Many say they still sympathize with the insurgency and despise the Bush administration and the fact that the invasion has helped strengthen the power of neighboring Iran, which backs the ruling Shiite parties.

What does this tell you about the man--this 'statement' was planned, he is a coward, he is selfish, or all of the above? Whatever you think or whether or not you agree with the war--he is a DISGRACE!

He 'volunteered' knowing full well what was waiting for him--trust me he would have had ample opportunity to 'bow out' before accepting his commission -- so what is this? A DISGRACE--he is disgracing those who have served with honor, those who have been killed, and those currently serving. I hope the ARMY punishes him with the full impact of the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice)--what better way for him to show he really 'stands up' for what he believes then to give up eight to twelve years of his life? None of the charges involved desertion, which can carry a harsher penalty, and describes is actions toward his 'brothers and sisters in arms'... A DISGRACE I tell you!

Don't Give Credit to Who Deserves It.

Let's review what we heard last year -- 'the pipeline is un-securable' or 'the military can never secure the pipeline'... Hmm, what do you think about this news?

Iraqi oil is gushing
BEIJI, Iraq -- For more than two years the attacks came like clockwork. As soon as the military secured and workers repaired the pipelines from Iraq's northern oil fields, just when the valves were about to open, insurgents would strike. But roughly three weeks ago they suddenly stopped, letting crude oil flow freely from Iraq's vast reserves near Kirkuk.
Now never fear the media doesn't let us down... They don't and won't credit anything the military is doing!
Perhaps insurgents feared reprisals in Salahuddin province, where pipelines from Kirkuk flow to the country's largest refinery in Beiji. Maybe terror leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's death disrupted a chain of command that ordered the attacks, military officials said.

Whatever the cause,...
"Whatever the cause" -- LET ME GIVE YOU A HINT -- "Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, what a great place....."
