Without identifying David Cole as the “legal affairs correspondent” for the far-left magazine The Nation, Friday’s World News Tonight on ABC featured his denigration of the probe into who leaked the secret eavesdropping story to the New York Times and his expert declaration that “the President of the United States violated a clear criminal prohibition on warrantless wiretapping.”

Why Speed Cameras are Bad

I cannot stand the idea of speed cameras or stop light cameras for that matter... In this case, if you follow all the links, you will find that the man was actaully going 18mph but the camera got him going 47mph -- what if he wasn't an engineer. BTW engineers rock!
Engineer Bryn Carlyon was issued a ticket by a traffic speed camera in Cardiff, UK. But he used multiple timed snaps by the camera, plus a little basic math, to prove that he could not have been traveling at the speed on his citation.

Just an FYI

Another flaw and an FYI for those that read this blog!
Techworld.com - Hackers exploit Windows flaw
Security firms have warned that patched systems running Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 can be successfully attacked by malicious hackers. The attacks can be carried out thanks to a newly discovered vulnerability in those operating systems' handling of corrupted .WMF (Windows Metafile) graphic files.

To the ACLU -- Make Up Your Mind!

The ACLU cannot make up their mind! They have campaigned against "racial profile" in favor for "behavioral profile" over and over and over.... Now they are proving they don't want "behavioral profiling" either -- please, MAKE UP YOUR MIND. (Hat tip: Michelle Malkin)

American Civil Liberties Union : ACLU Letter to the House Urging Members to Co-Sponsor the End Racial Profiling Act of 2004
Law enforcement based on general characteristics such as race, religion and national origin, rather than on the observation of an individual's behavior, is not only an inefficient technique;

Safe and Free // Post - 9/11 Resources: Racial Profiling, Discrimination and Immigrants’ Rights
Racial profiling is as flawed an approach to the war on terrorism as it was to the war on drugs. The ACLU is not alone in this belief: shortly after September 11, leading intelligence experts cautioned against using this counterproductive tool. In Assessing Behaviors, a memorandum first reported in the Boston Globe, the specialists advised law enforcement to focus on behavior, not race, in efforts to foil terrorist plots.

Behavior detection implemented at Maine airports - Boston.com
The federal Transportation Security Administration implemented its pilot program for behavior detection -- the practice of analyzing people's actions to determine if they have something to hide -- at Boston's Logan International Airport in 2002.
[...]
The TSA is facing opposition from the American Civil Liberties Union, which filed a lawsuit in Massachusetts last year claiming behavior detection can be easily abused because TSA officers have to guess who is suspicious, leading to racial profiling.

Jumped The Gun

Instead of treating it like renting an apartment we are treating like rent to own - one month at a time.
Congress Extends Patriot Act for One Month - Yahoo! News
WASHINGTON - Congress on Thursday approved a one-month extension of the Patriot Act and sent it to President Bush in a pre-Christmas scramble to prevent many of its anti-terrorism provisions from expiring Dec. 31.

A Little Longer

Well at least we are proactively pursuing terrorist for a little longer -- I just don't get the problem. The NYT says it can't find anyone that has been wronged utilizing this, and we all know they would try to find anything to make the President look bad, and senators agree we need something to ensure 9/11 doesn't happen again. What is the problem? Are we just going to extend this thing six-months at a time like renting an apartment.
Senate Votes to Extend Patriot Act for 6 Months
A much-debated domestic surveillance law won a reprieve last night when senators agreed to continue it for six months to allow House and Senate negotiators to resume efforts next year to rewrite it for the longer term.

This is Scary - no Sad

Trust me -- "there is no atheist in a foxhole"! Trying to censor a chaplain, officially or unofficially, is wrong. If the only chaplain at your disposal is of the Jewish faith we (military members) are intelligent to know that "in Jesus name" want be used, but most are aware if the chaplain's faith is Protestant then surely they will use "in Jesus name".
Military chaplains told to shy from Jesus -The Washington Times
I am a Navy chaplain being fired because I pray in Jesus' name,' said Navy Lt. Gordon Klingenschmitt, who will be holding 6 p.m. prayer vigils daily in Lafayette Park.
[...]
About 80 percent of U.S. troops are Christian, the legislators wrote, adding that military "censorship" of chaplains' prayers disenfranchises "hundreds of thousands of Christian soldiers in the military who look to their chaplains for comfort, inspiration and support."
Official military policy allows any sort of prayer, but Lt. Klingenschmitt says that in reality, evangelical Protestant prayers are censored. He cites his training at the Navy Chaplains School in Newport, R.I., where "they have clipboards and evaluators who evaluate your prayers, and they praise you if you pray just to God," he said. "But if you pray in Jesus' name, they counsel you."
Muslim, Jewish and Roman Catholic chaplains are likewise told not to pray in the name of Allah, in Hebrew or in the name of the Trinity, he added.

How would a Michael Moore movie sound that was about Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War? Maybe like this. (click to watch)

Great Question!

NewsBusters has a great question - "What suddenly overrode the Times’ reasonable and legitimate concerns for national security issues that lead it to release this story yesterday after keeping it under wraps for twelve months?"Could there be a political motive? Heavy Sunni Turnout Is Reported; No Large-Scale Attacks by Rebels - New York Times
BAGHDAD, Iraq, Dec. 15 - In a day remarkable for the absence of large-scale violence, millions of Iraqi voters, many of them dressed in their best and traveling with other family members, streamed to the polls today to cast ballots in a nationwide election as Iraqi leaders predicted that the vote would split almost evenly between secular and Islamist parties."
n spite of some explosions in Baghdad and Ramadi, voting appeared to be strong in many parts of the country, including in Sunni neighborhoods where many people boycotted the last election.

Lieberman's Iraq Stance Brings Widening Split With His Party - New York Times
In my most recent post I said "let us watch what happens, politically, to him!" -- well as I thought, he is on the outside looking in. Remember Democrats claim to be the party of inclusion, inclusion as long as you agree with everything they say! Some excerpts:
WASHINGTON, Dec. 9 - Five years after running as the vice-presidential nominee on the Democratic ticket and a year after his own presidential bid, Senator Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut has become an increasingly unwelcome figure within his party, with some Democrats seeing him more as a wayward son than a favorite son.
In the last few days, the senator has riled Democratic activists and politicians here and in his home state with his vigorous defense of President Bush's handling of the Iraq war at a time some Democrats are pressuring the administration to begin a withdrawal.
Mr. Lieberman particularly infuriated his colleagues when he pointed out at a conference here that President Bush would be commander in chief for three more years and said that 'it's time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge that.'

Uncommon Democrat

Joe Lieberman doesn't speak the party line where Iraq is involved -- let us watch what happens, politically, to him!
OpinionJournal - Our Troops Must Stay
What a colossal mistake it would be for America's bipartisan political leadership to choose this moment in history to lose its will and, in the famous phrase, to seize defeat from the jaws of the coming victory.

Example of Football Reported by Reports in Iraq

A look at how a MSM report would report Monday night's (11/28/05) football. Although the Colts won they must be loosing:-)
Carolina Journal | Imagine MNF Being Covered Like Iraq
The insurgent Steelers, striking sporadically with lesser equipment against the hegemonic Colts, inflicted serious damage with several tackles, a sack and some pass breakups, holding Indianapolis to only two field goals in the 15-minute span. Observers said it looked as if the tide were turning in favor of the insurgent Steelers.

In the third period, the Steelers again held the Colts to a single touchdown, damaging the Colts’ aura of invincibility and giving hope to the insurgents that their time would come. Some critics pointed to the stands as some Colt fans began filing out, saying that this showed the Colts losing support at home.

Forty-one percent of Democrats gave Saddam a thumbs up, while just 34 percent said Iraq is better served with the murderous dictator gone, reports the New York Post.

Literally hundreds of thousands of people have written Wikipedia entries.

[...]
Their poll also indicates many Americans are skeptical of Democratic complaints about the war. A majority believes the motive is really to “gain a partisan political advantage.”

Another Argument for Homeschooling

I have mentioned that I did not agree with my sibling's choice to home-school her "offspring" when she and her husband made the choice way back when -- however, when I see how wonderful her eighteen year-old has turned out and read stories like below, I must say it is more then just a viable option. With the deterioration of public school, the court system taking away parent's rights (read here), and the cost of alternative education -- I am fast becoming a home-school advocate.
Teacher under investigation for alleged liberalism - Boston.com
BENNINGTON, Vt. --The school superintendent whose district includes Mount Anthony Union High School has labeled 'inappropriate' and 'irresponsible' an English teacher's use of liberal statements in a vocabulary quiz.
'I wish Bush would be (coherent, eschewed) for once during a speech, but there are theories that his everyday diction charms the below-average mind, hence insuring him Republican votes,' said one question on a quiz written by English and social studies teacher Bret Chenkin.
The question referring to the president asked students to say whether coherent or eschewed was the proper word. The sentence would be more coherent if one eschewed eschewed.
Another example said, 'It is frightening the way the extreme right has (balled, arrogated) aspects of the Constitution and warped them for their own agenda.' Arrogated would be the proper word there.
Chenkin, 36 and a teacher for seven years, said the quizzes are being taken out of context.
'The kids know it's hyperbolic, so-to-speak,' he said. 'They know it's tongue in cheek. They know where I stand.'
He said he isn't shy about sharing his liberal views with students, but invites vigorous debate in the classroom.
'Never once have I said, 'OK, you're wrong,'' he said. 'Instead, it's, 'OK, let's open this up. Let's see where this can go.''
Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union Superintendent Wesley Knapp said he would not want his children subjected to such teaching.
'It's absolutely unacceptable,' he said. 'They (teachers) don't have a license to hold forth on a particular standpoint."

Disconnect -- Understatement

The poll I mentioned previously is mentioned in this article, from the MSM no less. Further, Max Boot, echos many things I and much more notable bloggers have been saying -- shinning a light on the media's attempt to paint a false picture.
Iraq's a lost cause? Ask the real experts - Los Angeles Times
WHEN IT COMES to the future of Iraq, there is a deep disconnect between those who have firsthand knowledge of the situation - Iraqis and U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq - and those whose impressions are shaped by doomsday press coverage and the imperatives of domestic politics.
Some more interesting excerpts.
The Pew Research Center and the Council on Foreign Relations just released a survey of American elites that found that 64% of military officers are confident that we will succeed in establishing a stable democracy in Iraq. The comparable figures for journalists and academics are 33% and 27%, respectively. Even more impressive than the Pew poll is the evidence of how our service members are voting with their feet. Although both the Army and the Marine Corps are having trouble attracting fresh recruits - no surprise, given the state of public opinion regarding Iraq - reenlistment rates continue to exceed expectations. Veterans are expressing their confidence in the war effort by signing up to continue fighting.
This is pretty good reading.

If You Trust Polls

If you trust polls, I for the most part don't, and are concerned about all the hubbub over the recent BBC poll about Iraq's view of the US -- here is another. Hmm, which is correct? Which is most accurate? Which words the questions as you would? You choose!

Happy Thanksgiving

I wish all -- liberal, conservative, or independent -- a Happy Thanksgiving. My deepest wish is that all have something to be thankful for, and I believe all Americans do.

Like last year I want to share George Washington's 1789 Thanksgiving proclamation.
WHEREAS, It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor;

WHEREAS, Both the houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me "to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:"

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted' for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have show kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

--George Washington - October 3, 1789

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday that an immediate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq would be 'a big mistake.'
The New York Democrat said she respects Rep. Jack Murtha, D-Pa., the Vietnam veteran and hawkish ex-Marine who last week called for an immediate troop pullout. But she added: 'I think that would cause more problems for us in America.'
'It will matter to us if Iraq totally collapses into civil war, if it becomes a failed state the way Afghanistan was, where terrorists are free to basically set up camp and launch attacks against us,' she said.

If so, the only exit strategy is victory, this is our common mission and the world's cause. We're in this together. We want to complete the mission while safeguarding our troops, avoiding innocent civilian casualties, disarming Saddam Hussein and engaging the community of nations to rebuild Iraq."

and The VP Sounds Off!

Just as the President had something the say about Democrats revising history -- the Vice President spoke up Wednesday. I have to admit I like his wording better and I am not sure many had a "backbone" to loose.
Link to speech: Vice President's Remarks at the Frontiers of Freedom Institute 2005 Ronald Reagan Gala
Some of the most irresponsible comments have, of course, come from politicians who actually voted in favor of authorizing the use of force against Saddam Hussein. These are elected officials who had access to the intelligence, and were free to draw their own conclusions. They arrived at the same judgment about Iraq?s capabilities and intentions that -- made by this Administration and by the previous administration. There was broad-based, bipartisan agreement that Saddam Hussein was a threat, that he had violated U.N. Security Council Resolutions, and that, in a post-9/11 world, we could not afford to take the word of a dictator who had a history of weapons of mass destruction programs, who had excluded weapons inspectors, who had defied the demands of the international community, whose nation had been designated an official state sponsor of terror, and who had committed mass murder. Those are the facts. (Applause.)
What we?re hearing now is some politicians contradicting their own statements and making a play for political advantage in the middle of a war. The saddest part is that our people in uniform have been subjected to these cynical and pernicious falsehoods day in and day out. American soldiers and Marines are out there every day in dangerous conditions and desert temperatures ?- conducting raids, training Iraqi forces, countering attacks, seizing weapons, and capturing killers ?- and back home a few opportunists are suggesting they were sent into battle for a lie.
The President and I cannot prevent certain politicians from losing their memory, or their backbone -? but we?re not going to sit by and let them rewrite history. (Applause.)

Notable

Not good news for the Hillary camp -- if the 2008 election was held today it would be Giuliani over Clinton. I personally have not decided where I stand on the topic of Giuliani but I definitely don't want McCain. Some excerpts:
Newswise - If the 2008 presidential election were held today, Republican Rudy Giuliani would beat Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton according to a nationwide poll conducted by Canisius College. Of the 455 respondents who volunteered an answer regarding the 2008 match-up, Giuliani received 54 percent of the vote to Clinton's 38 percent.

I have made my view about polls known, don't trust them, but it is interesting -- in addition to being bad news for Clinton it ain't good for President Bush (if you trust polls).

"Stay in The Fight"

Pay particular attention to the quote from Major-General William Webster -- now I am sure the left will treat this General like an idiot, he disagrees with them after all.
Bush vows to "stay in the fight"
OSAN, South Korea (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush vowed on Saturday 'we will stay in the fight' until victory in Iraq, rejected critics' calls for a troop pullout timetable and insisted progress is being made in Baghdad.
[...]
Bush quoted a top U.S. commander in Iraq, Major-General William Webster, as saying that setting a deadline for withdrawal would be "a recipe for disaster," and said that as long as he was president, "our strategy in Iraq will be driven by the sober judgment of our military commanders on the ground.

The following is a major point that for some reason escapes the left.
"We will fight the terrorists in Iraq, we will stay in the fight until we have achieved the victory that our brave troops have fought for," he [President Bush] said.

House rejects Iraq pullout - Yahoo! News

Not Weakness - In Your Face Honesty

The President's speech Friday was not one of weakness -- responding to the left is exactly what I wanted, no what I expected, and in so doing does not demonstrate weakness -- no matter how much as the MSM wants you it does.

The left and MSM would have you believe that speaking the truth is weakness while lying and providing the ENEMY with propaganda is strength -- and to think they call those of us that live in 'red states' dumb.

Here is a link to the President's speech: President Commemorates Veterans Day, Discusses War on Terror -- with excerpts:
And our debate at home must also be fair-minded. One of the hallmarks of a free society and what makes our country strong is that our political leaders can discuss their differences openly, even in times of war. When I made the decision to remove Saddam Hussein from power, Congress approved it with strong bipartisan support. I also recognize that some of our fellow citizens and elected officials didn't support the liberation of Iraq. And that is their right, and I respect it. As President and Commander-in-Chief, I accept the responsibilities, and the criticisms, and the consequences that come with such a solemn decision.

While it's perfectly legitimate to criticize my decision or the conduct of the war, it is deeply irresponsible to rewrite the history of how that war began. (Applause.) Some Democrats and anti-war critics are now claiming we manipulated the intelligence and misled the American people about why we went to war. These critics are fully aware that a bipartisan Senate investigation found no evidence of political pressure to change the intelligence community's judgments related to Iraq's weapons programs.

They also know that intelligence agencies from around the world agreed with our assessment of Saddam Hussein. They know the United Nations passed more than a dozen resolutions citing his development and possession of weapons of mass destruction. And many of these critics supported my opponent during the last election, who explained his position to support the resolution in the Congress this way: "When I vote to give the President of the United States the authority to use force, if necessary, to disarm Saddam Hussein, it is because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a threat, and a grave threat, to our security." That's why more than a hundred Democrats in the House and the Senate -- who had access to the same intelligence -- voted to support removing Saddam Hussein from power. (Applause.)

The stakes in the global war on terror are too high, and the national interest is too important, for politicians to throw out false charges. (Applause.) These baseless attacks send the wrong signal to our troops and to an enemy that is questioning America's will. As our troops fight a ruthless enemy determined to destroy our way of life, they deserve to know that their elected leaders who voted to send them to war continue to stand behind them. (Applause.) Our troops deserve to know that this support will remain firm when the going gets tough. (Applause.) And our troops deserve to know that whatever our differences in Washington, our will is strong, our nation is united, and we will settle for nothing less than victory. (Applause.)

Hmm -- Recruiting Up

Even with the media and other "anti-war" group's attempts to hurt if not destroy military recruitment, the military hits October recruiting targets. Speaks volumes towards actual support of the war and lack of media influence!
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Army, which missed its recruiting goal for 2005 by a wide margin, got off to a strong start in the new budget year by exceeding its October targets for the active-duty Army as well as the National Guard and Reserve.
The other military services also met their goals for active-duty enlistments in October, the first month of the budget year. The Air National Guard got barely half the recruits it wanted and the Navy Reserve met 89% of its goal.

Sour Grapes

I guess Dan would rather we trust forged document then the "new media" or better defined -- Americans using their right to challenge the MSM (Mainstream Media)... Yep, it makes sense to me, Dan has proven to be trustworthy -- hasn't he?
Dan Rather: Beware of 'New Media'
Rather called for a return to what he termed 'independent journalism', warning his listeners to cast a wary eye of the plethora of 'new media' outlets that he said feign objectivity while working to advance their own - or another's - agenda, according to the Bangor Daily News.

Parents Don't Have the Right to...

Can you believe this? Basically the court, out of San Francisco -- of course, said that parents don't have the right to choose how or what their children are taught about sex! What's next? Yep, I guess the courts are working just fine -- NOT!
U.S. court allows survey of children on sex topics
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Parents have no constitutional right to prevent public schools from exposing children to sexual topics, a U.S. appeals court ruled on Wednesday.
The San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a lower court's decision that found the rights of parents were not violated by a California public school district that allowed a psychological survey of its elementary school children.

Not as Diligent -- But is There a Need

To the regulars I have to apologize yet again... I have not been as diligent in keeping current with either tech news or general news... However, as far as the general news goes, has anything changed?

Still they use the "Bush lied" or "Republicans lied" argument -- totally disregarding the fact Democratic leaders "trumpeted" the same claims after seeing the same intelligence. Heck, before Bush was even in the running for President, President Clinton and her husband were making even bolder claims -- yet the coPresidents never thought about "defending us" from what they said was a threat.

The issue I think is the need for "children of the sixties" to have their last gasp and the media's attempt to regain "Watergate" fame... The problem with now and Watergate is that Nixon had actually done unethical and illegal things making his own party come out against him something the Democrats would never do with their "win at all cost" attitude -- we witnessed this in their rigid defense of their demigod Clinton.

Well anyway I DO plan to begin posting regularly or semi-regularly at a minimum.

Learn More by What they Leave Out!

Michelle Malkin receives information from Corporal Starr's uncle -- and we find what the New York Times left out in their musings. Corporal Starr, who paid the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq, wrote the below and the New York Times does not want to you to know it-
"I don't regret going, everybody dies but few get to do it for something as important as freedom. It may seem confusing why we are in Iraq, it's not to me. I'm here helping these people, so that they can live the way we live. Not have to worry about tyrants or vicious dictators. To do what they want with their lives. To me that is why I died. Others have died for my freedom, now this is my mark."

and The Left Celebrates

(via Cox & Forkum)

Hmm, Interesting!

The Washington Post has this, no recruitment crisis for the Army. Something the "gloom and doomers" don't like to hear -- well actually they will just ignore it! Some excerpts.
On Oct. 11 the Defense Department released its recruiting figures for fiscal 2005. Much attention has been given to the Army missing its goal of 80,000 recruits by 6,600. Despite some alarmist rhetoric, the Army is not in a recruiting crisis or considering a draft.
To put this year's shortfall in perspective, the total of 73,400 people recruited is within 2 percent of the average recruitment each year for the past 10 years. And the Army finished the last four months of the year strongly, recruiting more than 8,000 people each month. The Army also exceeded its reenlistment goals, enabling it to just about make up for the recruiting shortfall.

Still Waiting for Their Celebration

The 'anti' war crowd is waiting with baited breath for the celebration-- the media appears to be anxiously waiting...
Two US Marines killed in Iraq, death toll now 1,999
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Two U.S. Marines were killed in Iraq when their vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb, the military said on Tuesday, pushing the total U.S. military death toll since the 2003 invasion to 1,999.

How to Report Good News Badly

Iraq Charter Seems Assured of Approval
The above title reflects an historical event that ALL should be happy about; however, the AP shows how good news can be reported badly.
But the outcome could further divide the nation, with many Sunnis fearing the new decentralized government will deprive them of their fair share in the country's vast oil wealth. Large numbers of Sunnis voted 'no,' and some of their leaders were already rejecting the apparent result.
The writer here is not only a report but a clairvoyant -- predicting what will happen. I wonder if the writer knows about our very own constitution? Does Mr. Keith know that the US constitution was almost defeated if not for some compromises, compromises that ended up in the bill of rights? No, of course not -- Mr. Keith (the writer) does not claim to be a historian only clairvoyant. Got to love the MSM, they really believe we listen to their opinions -- ROFL!

Voting in Iraq Round 2

Another giant step in Iraq that most likely will be criticized and underestimated by the MSM -- then of course, like with the first vote their tune will change to how they thought it would be a good thing.

"This weekend is a momentous time in the history of the Middle East. After choosing their leaders in free elections in January, the Iraqi people have gone to the polls to vote on a democratic constitution. This constitution is the result of months of debate and compromise by representatives of Iraq's diverse ethnic and religious communities. These leaders came together to produce a document that protects fundamental freedoms and lays the foundation for a lasting democracy. Earlier this week, the Iraqi people embraced changes to the text that have led to its endorsement by some Sunni leaders, as well as Kurdish and Shia leaders. Now the people of Iraq will have the final say." - President George W. Bush (October 15, 2005 Radio Address) Posted by Picasa

N. Korea -- More Tricks!

U.S. accuses North Korea of $100 bill counterfeiting
Looks like North Korea has learned a new game instead of the usual "sure we will" - "no we want" - "it's the US's fault", game!
The Bush administration formally has accused North Korea of manufacturing high-quality counterfeit $100 'supernotes' for the first time, according to an indictment made public yesterday as part of a 16-year probe.
'Quantities of the supernote were manufactured in, and under auspices of the government of, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea),' said the indictment of Irish national Sean Garland and six others. 'Individuals, including North Korean nationals acting as ostensible government officials, engaged in the worldwide transportation, delivery, and sale of quantities of supernotes.'

More on The Video Ipod

Apple Introduces Video, TV Playing IPod (AP)
AP - Apple Computer Inc. unveiled Wednesday an iPod capable of playing videos, evolving the portable music player of choice into a multimedia platform for everything from TV shows to music videos.
Like I stated -- great idea if you have not invested in a DVR or enjoy a 2.5" screen or are traveling somewhere there is no television; of course, places that don't have television aren't that greatest for delicate electronics. Me, I will stick with my audio/photo only nano...

ABC Puts 'Lost,' 'Housewives' on iTunes

The network and its parent company, Disney, have teamed up with Apple to offer episodes of several shows, including monster hits "Lost" and "Desperate Housewives," on Apple's iTunes music service. The deal, which Disney says is the first of its kind, coincides with the release of ITUNES 6.
-----
Any of you that are interested in carrying video with you the "video Ipod" announced today is for you. Me, I am happy with my Nano since Audio (Podcast) is all I am interested in -- a 2.5" TV screen will not replace my TV besides replaying sports events isn't really my cup of tea and sports is the only reason for Television/Video isn't it? However, these series will play with the new ITUNES 6.0 on your computer and an episode is only $1.99... So not that expensive if you just have to stay up to date on your series and haven't invested in a DVR.

US Troops Plan to Protect Voters...

Reuters - U.S. troops trying to make Saturday's constitutional referendum in Iraq as safe as possible say it's not just people who have to be protected, but millions of pieces of paper.

Laura Bush says sexism... Mistake!

In defending the President's nomination, First Lady Laura Bush says sexism possible in Miers criticism -- this is a mistake! I have not made many if any personal comments about the choice; however, those that are opposed are not "sexist" and in fact some of the most outspoken opponents are FEMALE. To continue this course of defense could alienate some supporters.

I will say, in my opinion, President Bush has a pretty good "track record" with his choices... With that said, the choice is made -- let process move forward -- defending the choice is fine but throwing out words like sexism comes dangerously close to liberals throwing "racism" around referring to Katrina -- it is totally unfounded and appears ridiculous. Some excerpts from The Post:
COVINGTON, Louisiana (Reuters) - First lady Laura Bush joined her husband in defending his nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday and said it was possible some critics were being sexist in their opposition to Harriet Miers.

This Hits Close to Home

Not sure about you but I have chronic insomnia and in today's world on those sleepless night I head to the internet or television. With that said I found this article on scientists finding out what losing sleep does to a body interesting.
With a good night's rest increasingly losing out to the Internet, e-mail, late-night cable and other distractions of modern life, a growing body of scientific evidence suggests that too little or erratic sleep may be taking an unappreciated toll on Americans' health.
Beyond leaving people bleary-eyed, clutching a Starbucks cup and dozing off at afternoon meetings, failing to get enough sleep or sleeping at odd hours heightens the risk for a variety of major illnesses, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes and obesity, recent studies indicate.

And yet, many of the workers are not actually from New Orleans.
Many of those engaged in the huge cleanup and reconstruction effort here - nobody has an exact count - are immigrants, both legal and illegal, from Mexico and Central America.
Meanwhile, as many as 80,000 New Orleanians sit idle in shelters around the country. They are out of work, homeless and destitute.
Well it appears they are showing their "racist" colors and here is an idea -- go to those "idle" residents and hire them if you are that upset.

Political Correctness Runs Amok

CNN -- Reports All the Facts - RIGHT!

More proof of bias reporting from the liberal at CNN
Michelle Malkin: THE DEMOCRATS' KATRINA PROFITEER
From the 'Bias? What liberal bias?' files...
On Saturday, CNN.com had a piece titled 'Firms with White House ties get Katrina contracts:'
[...]
The Baton Rouge-based Shaw Group, CNN tells us, is a major corporate client of Joe Allbaugh, President Bush's former campaign manager and a former head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Among its Katrina-related contracts are this one valued up to $100 million from FEMA; and this one also valued up to $100 million from the Army Corps of Engineers.

But in their zeal to embarrass the Bush administration, CNN overlooks one very fat and inconvenient fact--and embarrasses only itself.

The Shaw Group, a multi-billion-dollar conglomerate, is headed by Jim Bernhard, the current chairman of the Louisiana Democratic Party. Bernhard worked tirelessly for Democrat Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco's runoff campaign and served as co-chair of her transition team. Another Shaw executive was Blanco's campaign manager. Bernhard is back-scratching chums with Blanco, whom he has lent/offered the Shaw Group's corporate jets to on numerous occasions.
Make sure you let CNN know what you think!

Interesting Way to Celebrate 9-11 Anniversary

CNN and other media outlets choose to "self censor" themselves after September 11, 2001 so not to "enrage the nation". We now see that these outlets that did not want to "enrage a nation" four years ago sue for the ability to photograph/video such images (from New Orleans) that they "self-censored" before, WHY? One can only assume -- to "enrage a nation".
CNN.com - U.S. won't ban media from New Orleans searches
HOUSTON, Texas (CNN) -- Rather than fight a lawsuit by CNN, the federal government abandoned its effort Saturday to prevent the media from reporting on the recovery of the dead in New Orleans.
Joint Task Force Katrina 'has no plans to bar, impede or prevent news media from their news gathering and reporting activities in connection with the deceased Hurricane Katrina victim recovery efforts,' said Col. Christian E. deGraff, representing the task force.

Remember September 11, 2001

This is the fourth anniversary of the most devastating event of my lifetime. An event that brought a nation together and in ways it divided it. Did the terrorist get what the wanted? Some might say the division that has crept into this nation is one thing that the terrorist wanted and some might say our response was not what they expected -- both the response and the division go hand-in-hand in this "day and age". Can you imagine the American people ever caring more about understanding why the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor then ensuring it never happened again, or second guessing every possible error made by the U. S. Military after that attack, would Truman a democrat have even been able to consider using the atomic bomb to end the war with today's democrats?

To answer my original question -- Did the terrorist get what they wanted? My answer, NO -- they did not get the appeasement that many countries expect from the USA nor was it overlooked or forgotten. Yes, many Americans have forgotten but as evidence by the 2004 election the majority have not nor is the majority ready to "forgive and forget"....

On this fourth anniversary we should remember those that died that tragic day, but we must also remember those that have made the same sacrifice, knowingly, since that tragic day. Take a moment and pray for those that have fallen, those that are in harms way, and those that are working to ensure this never happens again!.

You might be interested in what newspapers around the world have to say in remembrance -- Google News - "Remember 9/11". If you like and have time you might want to visit Remember September 11, 2001, a website that has bios of many lost that day.

An Avid Military Supporter -- This is Getting Old

I am not sure what it is! I suspect the military is trying to keep the negative press down, which is understandable but not distribute all the facts then having to reveal you knowingly choose this path is doing more harm then good. We have yet another story where the Army changes story about soldier's death -- supporters and non-supporters are solidified you are not going to gain anymore support then you have at this time, but you may certainly loose some. My suggestion, say nothing, which was my unit's response to anything, or tell the whole truth nothing but the truth so help you...... Again, knowingly being deceitful does more harm then good.

Don't get me wrong, I assure you I know better then most that secrecy is a must -- "loose lips sink ships" -- this is why I say "say nothing", silence is the best policy in most cases, attempting to steer a story only to be "found out" is a lousy policy!
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The U.S. Army said Saturday it knew for more than a year that 1st Lt. Kenneth Ballard was not killed in action in Iraq, as it initially reported.
